This turn-of-the-century Arts and Crafts farmhouse was in need of a complete refurbishment, having previously been under the ownership of the same family for several generations.
Using natural materials, inspired by the surrounding landscape, we transformed the property into a home fit for modern family living, whilst remaining sensitive to its rich history.

Located within the South Downs National Park, and within a Site of Special Scientific Interest, our aim was to ensure the property itself matched up to the beauty of its surroundings.
The three-part project – restoration of the existing house, an annex extension and remodelling of the surrounding landscape – helped bring the outside in and restore the sense of connection with nature.
Locally-sourced materials, including Wealden Sussex sandstone, handmade roof tiles and oak lintels, are used throughout, while spaces were reconfigured and windows added to make the most of the stunning views.
A double-height foyer in the main house floods the property with natural light, and the tumbled limestone floor provides a beautiful, yet practical, finish, fitting for the countryside setting.
The new annex wing provides guest accommodation, a utility room, boot room and a children’s craft area. It features a pitched roof clad in reclaimed clay tiles to match the main house.
A new partially enclosed courtyard, formed by the new additions, creates a grand approach to the new entrance, complimented by the remodelled gardens which now feature a kitchen garden, tennis court and swimming pool.
Many of the rooms include bespoke joinery built on-site, while wallpapers in the bedrooms and bathroom draw direct influence from the surrounding countryside.
