I wanted a cosy, comfortable home that I could feel proud of and that’s exactly what I’ve got.
Every day I stop and look and think ‘I can’t believe I actually live in the house that we drew’. The end result is almost identical to Ben’s initial drawings. I think that’s quite an unusual outcome and it’s testament to Ben and Joanna’s collaborative approach.

The client’s desire to create a light-filled, spacious sanctuary was achieved through the use of modern interventions, woven alongside the existing characteristics of the house.
A cantilevered oak-framed corner window creates a statement, while allowing light to flood the kitchen and providing clear views of the landscaped garden.

An L-shaped banquette provides a cosy, yet elegant, seating area, ideal for entertaining or for simply soaking up the light whilst sipping a coffee.
The use of natural materials throughout, and deliberate omission of any hard edges or shiny surfaces, lends the space a warmth and calm.

A commitment to sustainability and longevity informed the choice of materials – which echo those already present.
Limestone string courses placed throughout the brickwork create a layered look reminiscent of geological formations, while renewable hemp insulation significantly improves thermal performance and allows the building to breathe.
