It’s going to be the family home we always imagined it would be when we first bought it. It will make an amazing difference to our lives.

It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with Ben and Jo. Ben’s been on site every other week which is incredible, and it’s been amazing to have the option of getting Jo involved too, without having to search around for an interior designer. Renovating a house is a stressful process so it’s been really important to find people that are the right fit.

Charred House renovation project architectural extension plans

From a dilapidated empty property, with a garden so overgrown that the estate agents couldn’t measure it, to a beloved family home. The vision for this property has always been to add heart back into the house,to create spaces that the whole family can enjoy.

Located within the Orford Road Conservation Area, a sensitive design approach has been key to the entire project.

The extension is formed using a series of charred timber clad volumes, providing visual connection and flow throughout.

The cladding is preserved using the ancient Japanese art of charring the surface with fire, creating a beautiful finish which is both weather-proof and long lasting.
